Stranger Things 2: The Chapter that you didn’t like may be more important than you thought (yes, the seventh, the one with “Eight”)

Ok, I know that normally I don’t write this type of articles… but I use my Medium mostly to write my ramblings, thoughts and opinions. So, it counts!

First of all:

SPOILER ALERT! (although at this point I suppose that everyone has seen the season already…)

As the title says, the Seventh Chapter of the second season of Stranger Things wasn’t well received by the audience. To me, It seemed out of place, and everyone I talked to thinks the same.

I mean, come on, the little girl “Eight”, or Kali, as they call her, appears once in the first minutes of the first episode, and then she doesn’t appear until the seventh chapter… And that’s very strange, because I think I speak for everyone when I say that we expected her to be much more important. Or to be more relevant to the story.

But, you see, I started thinking about all this about Kali, and I said to myself:

“Now way this chapter is here just because, for no apparent reason, in Stranger Things nothing is random.”

So it got me thinking, because “Kali” was a name that seemed rather familiar to me, and a lot.

So, here are my main arguments why I think there is much more behind this episode than everyone thinks.

1- “Brenner is alive”

Ok, so this guy named Ray says that Brenner, the scientist who experimented with both Eleven and Kali, is alive. It’s weird, because we saw him die in the first season… bah, or they wanted us to believe that he was dead. Eleven is convinced of this, but, again, Ray says this:

“He is alive.”

“He trusts me. I’ll take you to him…”

And, again, in Stranger Things nothing is random… This thing about Brenner being alive is a massive BOMB, and it went unnoticed because we didn’t like the chapter in general. Well, now you should like it, because maybe it’s the most important chapter of the season.

2- “Kali”, the Goddess

Oh, and this is my favorite part. With this image that I put up here I think I’m already anticipating what I want to say, I guess.

You see, “Kali” is a Goddess of Hinduism, and that’s why her name sounded so familiar to me. Now, as we can see, our beloved Kali has a lot of arms, and what character and/or creature within Stranger Things has many limbs? Oh, yes, the Mindflayer.

YES, THAT’S WHAT I’M THINKING.

But there’s more. Kali is considered the Goddess of the Home, but her early history is that of a creature of annihilation. Initially, this divinity was a being that inspired fear and terror, although later Tantric beliefs represent her as a destructive aspect of evil and demons. Finally, Shaktism considers Kali as the “Great Mother Goddess”.

We have no idea what Eight’s potential is, we really don’t know. But, if I have to guess based on this description of Kali, I dare say that our (not so) dear sister of Eleven is going to play a fundamental role in the story with the Mindflayer.

The options are countless: she may become its hostess; she can be the one who annihilates the Mindflayer; both options together are also a possibility. And these are just quick guesses that occur to me now. Really, it’s a wide variety of chances!

3- Did Kali really ran away?

Why I think Kali will be the one who opens the portal to the Upside Down once again: we never saw her flee, actually. Yes, we see how she drives away in a vehicle totally ruined by police bullets. In my opinion, they shouldn’t have gone very far…

I can only think that she will eventually be captured, and brought before Brenner. More experiments will be carried out on her, and voilà, we have the Upside Down playing with our reality again!

To summarize…

To summarize, I believe that the chapter is much more important than what it wanted us to see. Moreover, I’m just scratching the surface of this, as I’m sure that people much more observant than me can make even more elaborate and thorough analyzes.

But, for now: worse chapter of the second season or the true introduction for the third?
