Behind the Scenes: The Love Games
Hi guys! It’s time to get to know the backstory behind Red Sheet’s fourth tale. And this one is a special one.
“The Love games” is a story in which most people from my generation may find a few familiar elements of their daily lives. Interactions within multiplayer online videogames are key to the tale, someting that today is more and more usual.
Without going any further, I myself have made good friendships with many of my playmates. As you may already know, I’m a huge Warcraft fan, and my experiences with this videogame inspired me to write The Love Games. Don’t be alarmed, I was never anywhere near the situation that the main characters live in the story!
But it is true that online interactions are charged with the same level of drama and gossip — sometimes even more — than face-to-face interactions. The Love Games aims to take these situations to the extreme, describing an unhealthy relationship that clearly couldn’t end well. Of course, I won’t tell you how it ends if you didn’t read it.
When writing this story, what I liked the most was to write the beginning, since the description of the epic virtual battle involving the avatars of William and Marisa has much of the fantasy genre, which is my favorite. In addition, it is a bit shaking to begin reading the tale, since it seems out of place after having read He is Writer, Paint Me and Debts. But after the battle, the story makes an unexpected descent to reality using videogames as a narrative resource. I admit it, I love it!
I also have to admit that at first I was not entirely convinced how to deal with this story, but once I could organize it, I wrote it very quickly. Clearly when you write about situations that are familiar or close to you, ideas come up more simply. Or at least, so it was with The Games of Love!
This is all for today. A short but cool article about one of the stories I like the most from Red Sheets. See ya next time!
