Behind the Scenes: He is a Writer

As Stella goes to bed, Marcus can’t deal with his frustration; he doesn’t know he’s about to write his last work.

Hi everyone! I hope you are doing great. It’s been a crazy week for me so far, but now I’m here with another Behind the Scenes.

Today I bring you the first Red Sheets story, “He is a Writer”, one of my personal favorites and without a doubt one of the tales that succeeds in reflecting the crude spirit of this eBook. When I was about to choose the opening story for the book, I was between this one and “Debts”. I finally chose He is a Writer because it’s shorter and faster than Debts. So, what could I tell you about this story… Honestly I don’t remember how I came up with the idea for the plot. What I can tell you is that it was the first story I wrote after a long time, and I did it to participate in a Writing Contest. Luckily I didn’t win; as I said before, I never knew if the stories would be mine, or if they would belong to the entity or institution that promoted the contest. And loosing the rights over my work sounds much worse to me than losing a simple contest.

The most interesting about He is a Writer is the context in which I wrote it. I was in a bus with my girlfriend, Karen, because we had gone to a Lindsey Stirling (she’s amazing!) concert in Rosario, Santa Fe, and on the way home I wrote in a notebook while she slept.

You see, I had a plan. Just as Marcus shows Stella his new work in the tale, I wanted to make Karen some coffee after waking her up, and then hand her the draft for her to read it. But when I finished writing I just couldn’t wait and I woke her up there in the bus.

If you already read the story, you’ll totally understand how scared she was when she finished! I know, it wasn’t a nice joke, but when she calmed down she admitted she had liked the story (at least that’s what she told me).
